New ANNOUNCEMENT
Floor Hockey Will Be Monday Nights in August
starting on the 9th through the 23rd.
Announcing the SIHA Floor Hockey League
Floor hockey (also known as street hockey) is a game that is played just like ice or inline hockey and the rules are generally the same. However, because the number one rule is to have fun and get some great exercise while doing it, we wanted to stress why we will emphasize importance of the rules.
First, there is absolutely no contact and penalties are strictly forbidden. [Read that again!] Any physical contact or intentional penalties will result in ejection from the game. Anyone that breaks the rules repeatedly will be removed from the league permanently.
General information
Who can play?
The Floor Hockey Fall Session is open to teen and adult players ages 15 and up (under 18 requires parent/guardian permission). We are co-ed friendly and women/girls are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Pick-up Style
This is a pick-up style type of environment. At least eight (8) players and two (2) goaltenders must show up to play (otherwise the session will be canceled). $5 per player will cover cost of rink rental. If there are more than two goalies, each goalie will play a period, then take a break so that each goalie has equal playing time. If you are interested in playing or have questions, please contact us.
Games
The games will be held Monday nights in August after the final. Games start at 7:00and end at 9:00. It is suggested that players arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. NOTE: The league will not be providing jerseys or t-shirts to players, please bring a light and dark colored t-shirt or jersey.
- Play is full rink, six on six; five (5) court players plus a goalie per team on the surface at one time. A minimum of four court players and a goalie must be on the surface at one time.
- The goals will be moved to the top of the face off circles.
- Periods will consist of 15-minute increments (running clock) with a three-minute break between periods.
Floor Hockey Rules (rules worth noting that differ from inline)
- KEEP YOUR STICK LOW. Stick blades must stay on the surface or below the waist at all times. This also includes windups and follow-throughs; if the stick blade goes above the waist when a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.
- There are no offside or icing rules in floor hockey.
- Face-offs will be held at center ice at the beginning of each period and after each goal scored.
Goaltender specific rules
- When the goalie has control of the puck, he has three (3) seconds to play the puck to the side or behind the net. The goalie cannot play the puck forward towards the other net.
- The goalie is the only player allowed to leave his feet to stop the puck.
- Goalies are allowed to leave the crease area, but once they are out of the crease, they have to obey the rules of court players (cannot cover or pick up the puck).
